Commonly Asked Questions
Cats
Overall Health

All cats MUST be in good health.
-
If your cat is showing any signs of illness, it is possible that they will be declined for surgery or sent home with medications (provided the illness doesn't interfere with surgery eligibility).

Signs your pet may be all include (but are not limited to): coughing, sneezing, runny eyes, and diarrhea.

Fasting
-
Kittens <4 months of age do not need fasted. A small amount of food should be given early in the morning prior to surgery.
-
All cats >4months of age MUST have their food withdrawn the night before surgery (by 12AM). Water should not be removed.
-
Failure to fast your cat for surgery may result in us declining your pet.

Carrier, Humane Traps, and Transfer Cages
-
All feral or fractious cats MUST be brought to us in a humane trap or transfer cage. This is for staff safety. Failure to do so may result in a $25 fee.
-
Each cat must be in their own secure carrier.
-
Ideally, the bottom of each carrier should be lined with an absorbent material on the bottom (paper towels, pee pad, newspaper, etc.)
-
Hard carriers are preferred due to space limitations, be we will accept soft carriers (provided they are secure).
-
Dog crates, cardboard boxes, laundry baskets, and small rodent cages are NOT secure.
-
If a carrier is deemed unsecure we will attempt to secure it with zip ties. If that does not work, you will be charged $10 for a cardboard carrier.
What NOT to bring?

Please leave any personal toys, personal blankets, etc. at home. These can easily get lost during the day. Fix'N Wag'N is not responsible for any lost towels, blankets, toys, etc.

Please leave "recovery suits" at home. Our clinic does not recommend them and we do not put them on patients, due to a risk of infection.

Previous Vaccine Records

If you did not submit records when scheduling your appointment, please email them to staff@fixnwagn.com or bring them with you the day of surgery.

By law, we are required to vaccinate all cats that do not have proof of a previous, up to date rabies vaccination. Rabies tags are not considered valid proof.
-
Valid records should have your information, your pet's information, the veterinary hospital's information, and the administering veterinarian's signature and license number.

Consent Form

After your appointment is approved, you will receive an email confirmation as well as a digital copy of your consent form.

Consent forms must be signed digitally. We do not offer paper copies. If you are having issues, a staff member or volunteer can help you the morning of surgery.

Consent forms need to be signed in Google Chrome browser.

If you are unable to sign it in advance, please do not call or email us saying you're unable to sign it. We can't assist you until check-in.
Dogs

Crates & Leashes

All dogs MUST be on a secure leash upon arrival.

If your dog is aggressive, please alert our staff prior to entering our building! We have office cats that free roam.

Please bring a crate large enough for your dog to lay down in (comfortably). This is how we will recover your dog.

Fasting

PLEASE DO NOT FAST YOUR RABBIT. Rabbits cannot vomit so there is no risk of aspiration during surgery.

Carrier

Each rabbit must be in their own secure carrier.

All rabbits should be provided with plenty of hay in their carrier. We recommend lining the bottom of the carrier with alfalfa (rabbits <7 months of age) or timothy hay (rabbits >7 months of age). Please do not put carrots in their carrier.
